The San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings will play under the primetime lights of Monday Night Football to finish out the opening week of the 2015 regular season. It should be an exciting matchup, with the return of running back Adrian Peterson motivating the Vikings, and the desire to put a wretched offseason behind them being the driving force of the 49ers.
‘Monday Night Football’ 2015 streaming: How to watch Vikings vs. 49ers online
The 49ers and Vikings will face off on Monday night, and here’s how you can watch online.
Peterson played in just one game last season before off-field issues forced him out of the remainder of 2014. Missing a year is a big deal for anyone, but there is reason to believe Peterson, a guy with a massive workload for seven consecutive seasons prior to 2014, might just benefit from the time away from football and hit the ground running on Monday.
Jim Tomsula is the new head coach for the 49ers, who also saw big-name players like Justin Smith, Patrick Willis, Chris Borland and Anthony Davis retire at various points this offseason. Losing veterans like Smith and Willis hurts plenty, obviously, but the 49ers feel like NaVorro Bowman is 100 percent healthy and like their young defensive line, with guys like Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial stepping up in Smith's absence.
It's Davis' absence that might hurt them the most. When Davis left and Mike Iupati departed in free agency, the 49ers had some big decisions to make and ended up with Erik Pears at right tackle and Jordan Devey at right guard. Neither of those players is particular good, and it's going to be tough for Carlos Hyde to fill Frank Gores' rather large shoes.
