35 players have more rushing yards than the entire Eagles offense this season

Pretty much everyone, but here’s the definitive list. As a bonus, we’ve also included the players who have more rushing yards than DeMarco Murray.

James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

Hey, did you know that the Eagles offense is struggling right now? Yes, it’s true. Most surprising of all is that Chip Kelly’s offseason attempt to sign some of the best running backs of the last five years has yielded a grand total of 70 rushing yards through two games.

DeMarco Murray, last year’s rushing champion and a guy who even got a couple MVP votes, has 11 yards on 21 carries. He’s averaging 0.5 yards per attempt and 5.5 yards per game, down ever so slightly from his 4.7 YPA and 115.3 yards per game last season. He signed a five-year, $40 million contract.

Ryan Mathews signed a three-year, $11 million contract in the offseason and has produced a grand total of 4 yards on four attempts. Quarterback Sam Bradford has more rushing yards through two games, 9 yards on two scrambles.

Darren Sproles leads the bunch with 46 yards on six attempts.

All of this is bad and not a positive reflection of the vision Chip Kelly implemented after winning the front office power struggle. But the numbers themselves just don’t drive the point home. We need to see some comparisons.
