The New England Patriots appear to be on a revenge tour after an offseason filled with DeflateGate headlines. They're out to a 2-0 start against tough competition, with wins over the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills. The comparisons to 2007, the last time the NFL investigated Patriots subterfuge, are endless. It's unlikely the Patriots will go undefeated again, but according to the experts, they should easily get to 3-0 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jaguars vs. Patriots 2015 picks and predictions: New England should continue its hot start
The Patriots have been unstoppable so far this season, and the Jaguars don’t appear to be a match for them.
Tom Brady is currently playing some of the best football of his career, going 107 of 155 with 1,213 yards and 13 touchdown passes since the NFL deemed his footballs to be underinflated at halftime of the AFC title game. We’ve seen this act before, and there is no mercy.
The Patriots have scored a touchdown on every trip into the red zone this season, largely thanks to a healthy Rob Gronkowski. For the first time since 2011, Gronkowski isn’t coming off a season-ending or postseason surgery. He’s caught 12 passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns through the first two weeks.
But it's not just Brady and Gronkowski who are helping the Patriots' offense operate with a surgical-like precision. Julian Edelman has continually exploited the middle of the field, while the unheralded star of the team so far is running back Dion Lewis, who's fourth in the league in yards from scrimmage despite going more than two years in between playing in the regular season.
Jacksonville will have its hands full Sunday, and probably won't be able to contain the Patriots. But the Jags could make this game closer than many expect, especially if Blake Bortles can replicate his performance from last week. Bortles went 18 of 33 for 273 yards and two touchdown passes in a win over the Miami Dolphins
However, it's worth noting the Patriots have only won both of their games by one possession. They allowed more than 400 yards to the Steelers in Week 1 and survived a three-touchdown barrage from the Bills in the fourth quarter last week. Bortles may be able to rack up some yards, but it's unlikely to be enough. With the way the Patriots' offense is rolling, nobody seems capable of stopping them.
And the experts agree. At CBS Sports, the analysts are unanimously siding with the home team, as is the 13-man panel at ESPN.
