The Philadelphia Eagles will have DeMarco Murray in the backfield for a Week 3 game against the New York Jets despite a hamstring limiting him in practice earlier in the week.
DeMarco Murray will play in Week 3 vs. Jets
Murray’s hamstring held him out of practice, but won’t keep him out of the Eagles’ lineup against the Jets.
According to ESPN’s Ashley Fox, Murray’s hamstring is feeling good enough to play on after it ended his practice on Wednesday. An MRI showed that it was just a minor tweak, but the running back still sat out of practice on Thursday.
Murray, 27, was a costly acquisition for the Eagles in the offseason after he led the NFL in rushing in 2014 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. He signed a five-year, $40 million deal with Philadelphia ($20 million guaranteed), but through the first two games of the season he has just 11 rushing yards on 21 attempts.
Running back Ryan Mathews hasn't had much success either, although Darren Sproles has managed 46 yards on six carries. Collectively, the Eagles have 70 rushing yards through two games, which is a lower total than 35 individual players.
The Eagles will look to get things going on the ground against the New York Jets, a team that has been stingy on defense so far. No team has allowed fewer points and the Jets still haven't allowed a rushing touchdown after big wins against the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.
Murray led the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns in 2014, racking up 2,261 yards from scrimmage for the Cowboys.
