The San Francisco 49ers released defensive lineman Darnell Dockett on Friday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, just six months after signing a two-year, $7.5 million deal with the team in March.
49ers release DT Darnell Dockett, per report
Darnell Dockett signed a two-year deal with the 49ers earlier in the offseason, but never played a game with the team before he was released.

Dockett, 34, spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Arizona Cardinals after the team selected him in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He earned three Pro Bowl nods and played in 158 of 160 possible games in the first 10 seasons of his career before he tore his ACL in a training camp practice in August 2014 and missed the entire season that followed.
He was released by the Cardinals after the season and signed with the 49ers a week later. The immediate speculation from Rapoport after Dockett’s release was that a reunion with the Cardinals could be a possibility.
Dockett has a colorful personality off the field and spent the 2014 season finding ways to have fun, despite being sidelined with his knee injury. During a game against the Oakland Raiders, Dockett taunted fans with a whiteboard, and in February he gave kids a three-step plan to success which included finding girlfriends and staying away from strip clubs for now.
In his first 10 NFL seasons, Dockett tallied 40.5 sacks, 459 tackles and nine forced fumbles for the Cardinals.
