The Cincinnati Bengals decided to release defensive tackle Devon Still in final cuts on Saturday, according to Pro Football Talk.

Still was carried on the Bengals practice squad during the 2014 season to help him pay his daughter’s medical bills.

Still, 26, was a second-round pick of the Bengals in the 2012 NFL Draft, but this isn’t the first time the team has released the defensive tackle. Still was released just before the 2014 season, but re-signed by the Bengals to the practice squad to help him pay for the medical bills that came with a cancer diagnosis for his daughter, Leah.
Leah Still and her father have since become stars in the sports world and beyond, and the pair received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at the 2015 ESPY Awards. In March, Still announced that his daughter was cancer-free, but complications with her stem cell transplant left her hospitalized again in May.
Still was a consensus All-American during his time at Penn State, but has just 40 career tackles and 0.5 sacks in three seasons in the NFL. He does not have any remaining practice squad eligibility, so he’d have to earn a spot on a team’s 53-man roster to keep his NFL dreams alive.
The NFL will provide Still with health care for the next five years to help with care for his daughter.
