NFL playoffs 2016: Very cold Sunday in Minnesota

Could Sunday’s game between the Seahawks and the Vikings be one of the top-10 coldest games of all time? What about the weather in Washington, D.C.? Here’s your Sunday Wild Card NFL playoff weather forecast.

There is a lot of focus on Sunday’s game in Minnesota between the visiting Seahawks and the Vikings because of the harsh conditions expected at game time. We are not talking about snow, but some very cold and bitter temperatures. Temperatures during the game will range from between -2 to around 3 degrees above zero.

NFL Playoffs Wild Card Sunday 2016 Temps

Temperatures across Minnesota will be between -3 to 3 above 0 and wind chill values between -20 to -10 Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis.

Along with very cold temperatures, wind chill values could be between 20 to 10 degrees below zero. What is the wind chill? The National Weather service defines it as the following:

The wind chill index is a measure of the heat loss to a human body due to the combination of cold air and wind. The colder the air and the stronger the wind the lower the wind chill index, and the faster that heat is transported away from exposed skin the lower the wind chill index. The lower the wind chill index the more quickly that frostbite and hypothermia can develop.

During the game, wind chill values will drop to 10 to 20 degrees below zero. This is how the air will feel on any exposed skin, and at these low levels frostbite could occur between 20 to 30 minutes.
