The Minnesota Vikings hired former Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who will join Mike Zimmer's staff as a tight ends coach, the team announced on Monday.
Vikings add Pat Shurmur to coaching staff
Shurmur is the new tight ends coach in Minnesota.

Ben Goessling of ESPN first reported that Shurmur would join the Vikings, but the position wasn’t initially known, with Norv Turner already in place as offensive coordinator and Scott Turner as quarterbacks coach. Minnesota was in search of a running backs coach and announced the addition of Kevin Stefanski on Monday along with Shurmur.
Stefanski takes over as the running backs coach after 10 seasons as a coach for the Vikings and spent the last two years as the team’s tight ends coach.
Shurmur was the offensive coordinator the last three seasons with Philadelphia and served as interim head coach in the final game of the 2015 season, taking over for the fired Chip Kelly to beat the Giants in the final week of the season.
The Eagles hired former Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson as their new head coach on Jan. 18.
In addition to the Vikings, the Rams and two other teams were said to be interested in Shurmur, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Shurmur, 50, has been a head coach before, guiding the Cleveland Browns in 2011-2012, following a short stint as offensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams (2009-2010). He was also the quarterbacks coach with the Eagles from 2002-2008 and the TE/OL coach in Philadelphia from 1999-2001.
Shurmur spent his early coaching career in college at Michigan State (1988-1997) and Stanford (1998) before making his way to the big time.
