The East-West Shrine Game was the first college all-star game starting in 1925. Some of the nation's best NFL talent — Tom Brady, Brett Favre and John Elway — played in the East-West game before their first professional snap. Participants spend the week ahead of the game supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children.

One more chance for these college players to shine.
More than 70 players from last year’s East-West game made final NFL rosters, and more than 90 signed with a team ahead of the regular season. Success for these players isn’t just short term, with 72 former players having been named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and more than 200 to the College Football Hall of Fame.
Players are selected and invited based on their potential to be drafted. All 32 NFL teams are consulted before the game to ensure a good representation of NFL talent. This game serves as a pre-interview for NFL scouts, who won’t see players again until the Combine or subsequent pro day workout.
This year’s head coaches are June Jones and Charlie Weis. Jones will lead the West team, and will bring his wide-open attack offensive style, that he found success with at the University of Hawaii. Weis, on the other hand, will lead a more pro-style offense to the East team, similar to his time with the New England Patriots.
Players this year include quarterbacks Nate Sudfeld (Indiana), Vernon Adams Jr. (Oregon), Joel Stave (Wisconsin), and Jake Rudock (Michigan). Other high draft stocks include running back Keenan Reynolds (Navy), wide receivers Paul McRoberts (Southeast Missouri State) and Devon Cajuste (Stanford).
The game is supported by the Shriners, with more than $1 million in proceeds going to Shriners Hospitals for Children to help families pay for services over the years.
