The Kansas City Chiefs have clinched a spot in the AFC playoff field. However, they still have something to play for in their season finale against the division rival Oakland Raiders.

The Chiefs can still win the AFC West with a win over the Raiders and some outside help.
Few expected the Chiefs to salvage much of anything from this season after opening with a 1-5 record. No team since the 2002 realignment has ever recovered from such a poor start to qualify for the postseason, and injuries to key players like All-Pro running back Jamaal Charles threatened to make matters worse. However, through determination and the relative ease of the schedule, Kansas City has not lost a game since Oct. 18. Their winning streak has not only pushed them out of the AFC cellar, but into the race for the division title.
The fall of the Denver Broncos has assisted matters for Kansas City. Denver won its first seven games before hitting a rough stretch. Peyton Manning's decline and subsequent injury forced him to the sidelines, and while replacement Brock Osweiler has played admirably for the most part, the offense hasn't pulled its weight. While the Broncos earned their playoff berth last Sunday, the Chiefs could still catch them for the division crown by matching their overall record.
To do that, the Chiefs need to overcome a feisty Raiders team that has improved considerably from years past. Derek Carr, inconsistent as a rookie in 2014, has developed into a more reliable and dynamic signal caller. While he still throws too many dangerous passes, he generally keeps the offense moving down the field and producing in the red zone. Helping matters has been the addition of wide receiver Amari Cooper, who topped 1,000 receiving yards two weeks ago. While a foot injury has limited his productivity at times, Cooper requires double teams whenever he steps foot on the field.
Oakland's defense too has taken big strides in 2015. Khalil Mack, in his first season playing primarily as a down lineman, leads the league with 15 sacks. Mack's production has not been limited to demolishing quarterbacks, however. He has become a more consistent run defender, forcing opposing offenses to work away from him whenever possible. Meanwhile, free agent acquisitions Dan Williams and Malcolm Smith have provided the Raiders with a stabilizing presence in the middle of the defense.
Finally, though Charles Woodson plans to retire after Sunday's game, he remains a field-tilter in the secondary.
For the Raiders, eliminating Kansas City from the division title race could provide a vital boost to their young roster. With Carr, Cooper, Mack and other developing talents in place, Oakland appears well-equipped going into the offseason. Picking up a win over a hated rival would represent another step toward the team’s ultimate goal. The Raiders may not be bound for the postseason now, but the team appears well on its way to overcoming more than a decade of futility.
The Chiefs enter the week with a 10-5 record, one behind Denver for the top spot in the AFC West. The Raiders come in at 7-8 with a chance to finish with a non-losing record for the first time since 2011.
