Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers starting quarterback and the recent subject of much media attention, showed up to play in Buffalo in a Muhammad Ali shirt.

History can repeat itself

Kaepernick headed into New Era Stadium in the shirt depicting another athlete who used his position as a sports celebrity to make social statements.
The quarterback started a firestorm this season by sitting for the national anthem, which you should know by now unless you’re coming out of a coma or a technology cleanse. If that’s the case, welcome back.
Kaepernick’s actions have drawn comments from everyone from Marshawn Lynch to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Players on other teams copied the move, others chose to raise their fists during the song.
Muhammad Ali made waves during his time, too. He chose to protest the draft, losing his boxing license in the process. He was also a controversial figure because of his religion.
Kaepernick is making a very pointed statement about history in this shirt.
