Case Keenum is still starting for the Rams and nobody knows why

Keenum threw four interceptions Sunday while No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff sat on the bench once again.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher says he's sticking with Case Keenum at quarterback following another bad performance Sunday. That means No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff will continue to sit on the bench.

Keenum threw four interceptions in the Rams' 17-10 loss to the New York Giants at Twickenham Stadium in London, including a pick-six to safety Landon Collins and two in the red zone. Since the five-year veteran now has more interceptions (10) than touchdowns (8), the calls for Goff to start will only get louder.

It's been a bizarre season for Goff, who opened up the year as the Rams' third-string quarterback. It wasn't too long ago that Fisher thought more highly of Sean Mannion than the player his team traded two first-round selections to acquire just a few months prior.

Though Goff is expected to get more practice reps in the coming weeks, Fisher’s commitment to Keenum appears unwavering. He said Sunday he’s more likely to make changes at wide receiver before he even considers swapping quarterbacks.

The trend of teams starting rookie quarterbacks has only accelerated this season. No. 2 pick Carson Wentz won the starting job in Philadelphia and is dueling with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who's playing for the injured Tony Romo, atop the NFC East. The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots have started rookie quarterbacks -- Paxton Lynch and Jacoby Brissett -- as well.

It’s likely that Goff isn’t ready for superstardom. Even Fisher wouldn’t be benching him if that were the case, unless he has an unflappable commitment to going 7-9 that can’t be broken at any cost. But it’s nonsensical to keep Goff sidelined while Keenum continues to literally throw the Rams’ season away into the hands of opposing defensive backs.

Maybe Goff would struggle as a starter. Maybe he would even be horrific. But he couldn’t possibly be worse than Keenum. The Rams have nothing to lose here, but they still haven’t pulled the trigger on what should be an obvious personnel change.

Rob Lowe is sick of this crap too.
