It was a wild finish in Atlanta, as the San Diego Chargers tied things up 30-30 late in the game against the Falcons, then came out on top in overtime, 33-30.
The Chargers proved they’re the NFL’s most dramatic team with an overtime win over the Falcons
Atlanta’s loss to San Diego was one of the most thrilling finishes of Week 7.

The Chargers pressured Matt Ryan consistently, led by rookie defensive end Joey Bosa, who had two sacks. San Diego managed to limit Ryan to just 273 passing yards and one touchdown, including overtime. It was well below Ryan’s average of 329.5 passing yards per game so far this season, which is good for first in the NFL.
The Falcons tried to establish the running game to keep Bosa and the Chargers at bay, and had some success against San Diego on the ground. Running back Tevin Coleman had 64 rushing yards, including a 30-yard touchdown, before leaving the game with a hamstring injury. Devonta Freeman added 58 yards on 15 carries.
A fourth quarter interception by Ryan, immediately after he set a new NFL record for consecutive games with 200-plus passing yards, swung the late-game momentum in the Chargers’ favor. The Falcons’ defense was unable to stop the Chargers as they marched down the field and got into field goal range to tie it up 30-30 with 18 seconds remaining in the game.
Atlanta had a shot with a last-second field goal attempt to pull off the win, but Matt Bryant just barely missed the 57-yard attempt. Atlanta was able to get into field goal range despite what appeared to be another blown pass interference call on a ball intended for Julio Jones.
On the first possession of overtime, the Falcons were stopped on fourth-and-1, turning the ball over on downs. The Chargers started with good field position, and were able to get into field goal range. Josh Lambo nailed the 42-yarder, securing the win for the Chargers.
It’s a big win for the Chargers, and San Diego overcame some offensive mistakes to make it happen. Rivers threw one interception, which was returned by Falcons rookie Deion Jones to San Diego’s 10-yard line and set the Falcons up for a field goal. A strip sack by Falcons linebacker Vic Beasley was recovered by Adrian Clayborn, and he rolled into the end zone for a touchdown.
This was far from the first exciting finish the Chargers have had this season. Early on, the games weren’t finishing in their favor. In their first three losses of the season, the Chargers held leads in the last five minutes, only to blow them all. In a Week 5 loss to the Oakland Raiders, they had a chance to tie the game with a field goal but botched the snap to clinch the three-point loss.
Last week, the Chargers were able to defeat the Broncos, who had looked like one of the best teams all season up until that point. Then, there was Sunday afternoon, when the Chargers were able to come back and defeat the Falcons.
The Chargers improve to 3-4 and establish a two-game winning streak, while the Falcons hold their lead in the NFC South despite falling to 4-3.
