Through four weeks of the 2016 NFL season, Ryan Fitzpatrick has been the league's worst quarterback. So it's no wonder why experts across the country are picking against the Jets when they face a juggernaut Steelers team on Sunday.
Jets vs. Steelers 2016 picks and predictions: No one is picking a New York upset
Ryan Fitzpatrick’s awful start to 2016 has made New York a major underdog for its visit to Pittsburgh in Week 5.
Fitzpatrick has a dismal 4:10 TD:INT ratio through four games, leaving the Jets languishing at 1-3 at the season's quarter mark. His QB rating of 57.6 is the lowest in the NFL and lowest in his career. Despite having targets like Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and Matt Forte at his disposal, the passer has taken a huge step back after his offseason holdout.
Pittsburgh has fared much better with its veteran quarterback. Ben Roethlisberger absolutely lit up Kansas City in Week 4, throwing for 300 yards and five touchdowns in a 43-14 Sunday Night Football rout. His uber-efficient aerial attack made the return of LeVeon Bell almost unnecessary. The dynamic tailback played his first game of the season after missing three weeks due to a league suspension. Bell was explosive against Kansas City, rushing for 144 yards on just 18 carries.
But Bell may be in for a drastic decrease this week. He'll face a Jets defense currently ranked second in the league when it comes to rushing yards allowed. Instead, the combination of Roethlisberger and All-Pro wideout Antonio Brown (369 receiving yards, four touchdowns) will have to pick up the slack if Bell can't find room to run. That won't be too much of a problem against a secondary that's allowed 285 passing yards per game this fall. A diminished Darrelle Revis has been unable to keep New York's opponents from scoring more than 26 points per contest in its 1-3 start.
No one has much faith in the Jets to leave Heinz Field with an upset victory.
All nine of ESPN’s experts, along with the site’s Pick ‘em population, are leaning Steelers. Same goes for CBS Sports’ cast of writers. SB Nation won’t break from the trend; our writers predict another clean sweep for Pittsburgh.
