Raiders focused on 2 things: Winning and moving to Las Vegas

Despite a new stadium plan endorsed by civic leaders and a private development group, owner Mark Davis says he’s “committed to Las Vegas.”

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Raiders have a real option for staying in Oakland now. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s office announced a framework deal that may keep the team from moving. There’s just one problem with that deal: it doesn’t actually include the Raiders, it’s with the city and a stadium development group.

Owner Mark Davis still has his eyes on Vegas.

“The Raiders are committed to Las Vegas, and that’s what I’m working on,” Davis said.

The key is whether or not Roger Goodell and the NFL view the Oakland plan as viable. St. Louis had a stadium plan (a flawed one) too, but the NFL never gave it a chance. The difference here is that the NFL was never especially concerned with staying in St. Louis. They had a chance to fill the Los Angeles market and do it with an owner who could build a luxury stadium. With a team in L.A. now, the league doesn’t seem as willing to go through the relocation drama again.
