The Saints took a commanding 38-23 fourth quarter lead over the 49ers, but Drew Brees’ third touchdown pass couldn’t have happened without some help from the San Francisco defense.
Saints WR Michael Thomas caught a touchdown that bounced off a 49er in perfect coverage
Drew Brees’ third touchdown pass of the afternoon came with an unlikely assist.

Brees found Michael Thomas down the right sideline for a 32-yard touchdown that bounced off 49ers cornerback Tramaine Brock’s shoulder and face mask before Thomas could pull it down. The rookie wide receiver displayed some great concentration to corral the ball and fall down in bounds to complete the reception.
The touchdown was Thomas’s second of the game. He had never had a multiple touchdown game as a professional before Sunday. The catch pushed New Orleans’ lead out to two possessions in a game the Saints need to win to keep pace in the NFC playoff race.
