Three weeks ago, the Buffalo Bills were only one game behind the New England Patriots in the AFC East. But now, after two straight losses, the direction of their season largely depends on how they perform against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football this week.

The Bills must defeat the Seahawks to get their season back on track. It’s a tall order.

It's a tough matchup for Buffalo despite the Seahawks' season-long woes on offense, which showed up again in a 25-20 loss to the New Orleans Saints last Sunday. Seattle almost pulled off the come-from-behind victory, but Jermaine Kearse landed out of bounds when he caught Russell Wilson's throw in the back of the end zone as time expired.
It’s been a struggle all year for the Seahawks to put points on the scoreboard. They’re 29th in points per game (18.7) and 23rd in total offense (339.9 yards per game) after back-to-back subpar efforts. Fortunately for them, the Bills’ defense is pretty mediocre. Buffalo is ranked 17th in the league in points allowed.
The Bills tried to shake up their team this week with the reacquisition of wide receiver Percy Harvin, who played in five games with them last season. On paper, he potentially gives quarterback Tyrod Taylor another dynamic pass-catching option while Sammy Watkins recovers from a foot injury. Then again, Harvin hasn't been a reliable contributor since 2012.
With a defense that’s tied for first in the league with 26 sacks, the Bills could make Seattle uncomfortable on offense. But the Seahawks will likely return the favor -- the “Legion of Boom” has allowed the second-fewest points in the league. Sunday’s game is shaping up to be a brutal defensive-minded contest. Rex Ryan’s Bills will have to outlast the Seahawks if he wants to remain off the hot seat.
