With just a few weeks left in the 2016 regular season, only one team — the Dallas Cowboys — has punched its ticket to the playoffs. This week, despite a 10-7 loss to the Giants, they’re still the only ones officially in the playoffs.
NFL playoff standings 2016: How the Week 14 schedule shaped the postseason picture
The Patriots are in the top spot in the AFC again, while the Giants prevented the Cowboys from clinching the NFC East.

The Seattle Seahawks could have locked down their division and secured a spot, but they got crushed by the Packers in snowy Green Bay.
The New England Patriots had a chance to do the same until the Miami Dolphins rebounded from a 38-6 loss to the Ravens to top the Arizona Cardinals in Week 14. The Patriots beat that same Ravens team on Monday night, but will have to wait another week to clinch the division.
The Oakland Raiders, who entered the week as the No. 1 seed in the AFC, had a chance of their own to secure a playoff bid for the first time since 2002. They fell to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football and not only lost their lead in the conference, but in the AFC West as well.
Here’s a look at how Week 14’s action shaped the 2017 NFL playoff race.
Chiefs 21, Raiders 13
The Chiefs improved to 10-3 and are the new leaders in the AFC West. The Raiders are also 10-3 and in good shape for a wild card spot, but after two losses to Kansas City this season, their chances of winning the division took a big hit.
Steelers 27, Bills 20
The Steelers take over first place in the AFC North for a at least a day. They can hold on to it even longer if the Ravens lose on Monday night, but even with a Baltimore win, Pittsburgh will own a wild card spot.
Bengals 23, Browns 10
The Bengals remain technically in the playoff hunt at 5-7-1, but they are 2.5 games away from the AFC North’s top spot with only three games to play. The Browns remain winless, dropping to 0-13.
Lions 20, Bears 17
The Lions did it again, coming back in the fourth quarter to get the win. They also maintained at least a two-game lead in the NFC North with only three weeks to play and staked their claim as one of the conference’s top teams. The Bears are now officially eliminated from the playoffs.
Titans 13, Broncos 10
The Titans move into a two-way tie atop the AFC South with the Texans, although with a weak record against division opponents, they lose most of the tiebreakers that would help the team snap an eight-year playoff drought. The 8-5 Broncos stay in the No. 6 seed despite the Dolphins’ win due to a better record against common opponents. However, a Ravens win on Monday night would bounce the Broncos out and put the Steelers in the final wild card spot.
Texans 22, Colts 17
Houston moves to 7-6 and into the top position in the AFC South, though the Titans are also 7-6.
Dolphins 26, Cardinals 23
The Dolphins prevent the Patriots from clinching the AFC East and are tied with the Broncos at 8-5. The Broncos remain in the final wild card spot this week, however.
Washington 27, Eagles 22
Washington could have jumped back into a wild card slot, but they stay right behind the Bucs.
Panthers 28, Chargers 16
Best-case scenario, the Panthers are two games out of the NFC’s last wild card spot with three games to play. It still doesn’t look good for last year’s conference champs.
Vikings 25, Jaguars 16
The Vikings keep pace with the Lions in the NFC North, but their postseason hopes likely lie in the wild card race, especially if Tampa Bay loses.
Jets 23, 49ers 17 (OT)
Todd Bowles improves to 4-9, but the Jets’ playoff hopes were officially burned to the ground last week and unofficially razed by October.
Packers 38, Seahawks 10
Green Bay improves to 7-6 but would still need help to catch the Lions, who hold a two-game cushion in the NFC North.
Falcons 42, Rams 14
Matt Ryan retains his tenuous grip on the NFC South and stabilizes the Falcons after a recent 1-2 skid.
Buccaneers 16, Saints 11
The Buccaneers stay in the wild card race and will remain tied with the Falcons for first place in the NFC South. Atlanta, which beat the Rams, will stay atop the division by virtue of a better record over common opponents.
Giants 10, Cowboys 7
The Giants retain hope of catching the Cowboys and strengthen their grip on a wild card spot.
Patriots 30, Ravens 23
New England is atop the AFC while Baltimore falls out of the playoff picture this week.
