The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants are vying for the NFC East, though the former team has already clinched a spot in the playoffs. Just about everything went wrong for the Cowboys prior to the start of the regular season, but an incredible draft class has them with the best record in the league.
Cowboys vs. Giants 2016: Time, TV schedule for ‘Sunday Night Football’
The Cowboys have the chance to avenge their lone loss of the season when they face the Giants on Sunday Night Football.
Dallas has only lost once this season — to the Giants all the way back in Week 1. They will try to avenge that loss when they travel to take on New York under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football in Week 14. The game will get underway at 8:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by NBC. As usual, a live stream will be available online via NBC Sports.
The Cowboys, at 11-1 on the season, can clinch the NFC East by beating the Giants on Sunday. New York, at 8-4, could keep the fight for the division alive with a win, though the Cowboys would still have a couple of games on them based purely on record. If the Giants win on Sunday, then a potential tiebreaker down the line would be in their favor.
But the Giants did miss an opportunity to make it even closer when they lost their last game. They were riding a six-game winning streak, but they fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13. Their remaining schedule includes the entire NFC East and the very tough Detroit Lions, so even a spot in a wild card matchup isn’t necessarily guaranteed for New York.
Given that the Cowboys last lost in Week 1, they’re currently riding an 11-game winning streak. Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott and rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott have been nothing short of fantastic. Prescott isn’t throwing for a ton of yards, but he’s being incredibly smart and efficient with the football, showcasing a leadership far beyond his years.
Elliott, though, has just been ridiculous on the field. He leads the league in rushing yards with 1,285 yards, more than 200 yards ahead of the next player, former Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray (1,043 yards). David Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals is the only other back with 1,000-plus rushing yards (1,005).
Even if he doesn’t put up the most touchdowns or the most yardage, Prescott is ranked third in the league in quarterback rating. He trails only Tom Brady of the New England Patriots and Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons. And he’s only tossed a pair of interceptions against 19 touchdowns on top of that.
The Giants have been good on both sides of the ball this season. The defense has been much better than it was last season, while quarterback Eli Manning has thrown for 3,097 yards, 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. As usual, he’s struggled with some bad picks and some bad plays, but Manning, 35, is looking good and ready for a playoff run.
