This offseason, the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions were both, once again, afterthoughts in the NFC North. Neither team was expected to amount to much, and one of them fulfilled those expectations. The other one is atop the division and one of the hottest teams in the league.
Bears vs. Lions live stream: How to watch NFL Week 14 matchup online
Matthew Stafford and the Lions are among the hottest teams in the NFL, and on Sunday they’ll try to avenge an early season loss to the Bears.
Detroit will play host to Chicago, who is 0-6 on the road, in a Week 14 game on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on television via CBS. Live streams online are available via CBS All-Access and Sunday Ticket Online.
The Lions have been better than anybody expected this season and have won their last four games. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is playing like an MVP candidate, and Detroit seems primed to take the NFC North on the back of its excellent offense.
Stafford has completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 3,224 yards, 21 touchdowns and just five interceptions this season. Stafford has always thrown for a lot of yards, but he’s actually throwing the ball less this season than he has in seasons past and is doing better in just about every statistical category.
That’s with a running game that has been downright poor all season. Theo Riddick is the team’s leading rusher and he has just 357 yards and a touchdown, with a per-carry average of 3.9 yards. Stafford is second on the team with 178 yards rushing.
The Bears have been giving Matt Barkley a shot at starting due to injuries to Jay Cutler, and he’s played so-so football, with three touchdowns and four interceptions. Cutler had just four touchdowns and five interceptions on the season.
Running back Jordan Howard is about the only good thing going for the Bears. He has 883 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, with a per-carry average of 4.9 yards. But his play hasn’t been enough to carry the Bears to anything other than a 3-9 record.
The Lions haven’t lost many games this season, but they did fall to the Bears earlier in the year. Brian Hoyer was Chicago’s starting quarterback at that point, and he played well in the game. Hoyer threw for 302 yards with a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions, and it was probably the best game by a Bears quarterback this season.
Hoyer won’t be playing on Sunday. And the Lions have to be confident that they can avenge that early season loss. They boast a 5-1 record at home, while the Bears have only managed to win games at Soldier Field this season. Everything is in favor of the Lions, save for that Oct. 2 game that went the other way.
But the Lions and the Bears both look much different than they did in that meeting. And with the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers both struggling this year, the NFC North is Detroit’s to lose.
