Despite an 11-2 record as a starting quarterback, there is talk about rookie Dak Prescott potentially giving way to veteran Tony Romo is Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers doesn’t end in favor of the Dallas Cowboys. It’s almost a ridiculous notion, but it’s still been suggested by the media.
Buccaneers vs. Cowboys: Start time, TV schedule for ‘Sunday Night Football’
The Buccaneers and Cowboys are locked in a battle for the NFC South and NFC East going into their “Sunday Night Football” matchup.
Prescott will try and prove the doubters wrong under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football in Week 15. The game will kick off at 8:30 p.m. and will be broadcast by NBC. As usual, there will be an online stream live at kickoff via NBC Sports.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has done nothing to help the speculation surrounding Prescott by maintaining Romo still has a part to play this season and next. It’s anybody’s guess as to whether there is real chance that Prescott isn’t the starter for the remainder of the season, including the postseason.
Prescott has completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 3,139 yards, 20 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Two of those interceptions came against the New York Giants in his last outing. The Giants are the only team to beat the Cowboys this season, but they have done it twice. The second game was the first multi-interception game of Prescott’s young career.
But the Cowboys are still doing incredibly well. They had won 11 consecutive games before falling to the Giants. They are playing the Buccaneers, a team that has been riding a hot streak since it became clear that the NFC South was going to be a bad division overall.
The Buccaneers have won their last five games, including big wins over the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks, two tough playoff teams. Most recently, they squeaked out a win against the rival New Orleans Saints, and will play them again after the game against the Cowboys, with a season closer against the Panthers, a team they already beat once as well.
Second-year quarterback Jameis Winston has been much better than year than his rookie season. Winston has shown serious improvement, though his interception numbers are still higher than the Buccaneers would like. He’s completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 3,364 yards, 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also has 127 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The Atlanta Falcons have found their stride lately, too. Tampa Bay split the season series with the Falcons at 1-1 and the two rivals now are tied atop the division (with Atlanta currently holding the tiebreak) with 8-5 records.
The Falcons also play the Panthers and Saints before their season is over, but will next play the terrible San Francisco 49ers. So all things being equal, the Falcons might actually be favored to take the division given their easier schedule.
All Tampa Bay can do for now is concentrate on beating its next opponent, though. The Bucs will try to do that just that on Sunday evening against the Cowboys. Below is all you need to watch Sunday’s game.
