The NFL moved most of its games from Sunday to Saturday to avoid scheduling showdowns on Christmas, but a pair of pivotal AFC matchups remain to make the holiday season a little bit brighter.
NFL Christmas Day schedule 2016: Start times, TV schedule, and live stream for NFL Week 16
Two huge AFC showdowns ensure you won’t have to spend much quality time with family on Christmas Day.
The action starts when Pittsburgh hosts arch-rival Baltimore in a game that could decide the AFC North champion. The Steelers are seeking revenge after the Ravens beat a hobbled Ben Roethlisberger in Maryland earlier in the season. A win Sunday would clinch the team’s second division title in the past three years. A Baltimore victory would put Joe Flacco and company only a win over a bad Bengals team away from returning to the playoffs.
The Steelers have shaken off a 4-5 start to stake their claim as one of the NFL’s hottest teams. Pittsburgh has won five straight to take control of the North and make the playoffs for the third straight year — something the franchise hasn’t done since 1998. The team’s big three of Roethlisberger, All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown, and All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell have turned a traditionally defense-heavy team into an offensive juggernaut in 2016.
They’ll have their hands full with a dynamic Ravens defense in Week 16. Baltimore ranks third in the NFL when it comes to yards allowed per pass (6.3) and second in rushing yards allowed per game (82.1). If that defense can hamstring the Steelers’ dangerous trio, it can take control of the AFC North with just one game to play.

The second game of the day promises even more excitement thanks to the presence of potential Offensive Rookie of the Year Tyreek Hill. Hill burst onto the national scene the last time the Chiefs and Broncos met, shredding Denver for a kickoff return touchdown, rushing touchdown, and receiving touchdown.
Hill’s diverse array of touchdowns was something no NFL player had done since Gale Sayers in 1965 — and something no rookie had done, period. The Chiefs only gained 274 yards of offense through that overtime game but still managed to hang more points on Denver than all but one other team this fall.
The Broncos have some positives to bank on from that home defeat. Trevor Siemian, the third link in a line of underwhelming franchise quarterbacks since 2015, had one of his finest games as a professional despite facing one of the league’s most opportunistic secondaries. The second-year passer threw for a career-high 368 yards and three touchdowns despite the loss.
Denver may be playing for its postseason life Sunday. That loss to the Broncos kicked off a 1-3 stretch that dropped them from the playoff picture and threatens to derail its NFL Championship defense. Kansas City, on the other hand, just needs a win — or a Ravens loss earlier in the day — to ensure its season doesn’t end after Week 17.
