The New York Giants are riding a six-game winning streak, and in any recent iteration of the NFC East, that would likely be enough to put them on top. The division has been shuffled constantly in recent years, but this year, the Dallas Cowboys are firmly out in front.
Giants vs. Steelers 2016: Time, live TV schedule for NFL Week 13 matchup
The Giants will try to keep the pressure on the Cowboys by beating the Steelers in Week 13 on Sunday.
But New York is in a great position when it comes to the wild card race. On Sunday, they will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, another team on a winning streak, but a more modest one of two games. The game will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FOX. A live stream online will be available at FOX Sports GO.
The Steelers beat the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns in their last two games, but before that were riding a four-game losing skid which included a loss to the Cowboys. The Giants last lost back in early October when they played the Green Bay Packers. All three of their losses came during a losing streak after picking up their first two wins of the season.
New York is 3-2 on the road, which is the same record the Steelers have at home this season. The Steelers have lost their last two home games and last won at home ... on Oct. 9, the last day the Giants lost.
The Giants can’t afford to get back to their losing ways, but the Steelers are right on the edge of being competitive and they need to win now, not later. It’s December, and every win is huge for the AFC North. Fortunately for the Steelers, the rest of the division isn’t very good. The Browns are winless, the Cincinnati Bengals are 3-7-1, and the Baltimore Ravens, like the Steelers, are 6-5.
If the Giants win, they will still be two games back of the Cowboys in the NFC East, so they have a better shot at securing a wild card berth. That’s a tougher task for the Steelers due to all the seven- and eight-win teams in the wild card picture already in the AFC, including the Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, and Denver Broncos.
In the NFC, the Giants are the top wild card team by two games and have some breathing room. But there are two six-win teams not far behind them and they can’t get complacent.
The Giants didn’t play their best game last week, a 27-13 win over the Browns. The offense put up under 300 yards and Eli Manning threw for a season-low 194 yards. For the fifth game in a row, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was held to under 100 yards. But the Browns are the Browns, so even a below-average effort got the Giants a win.
If the Steelers want to pick now to actually stand up and put up a fight, this would be a good time to do it. The Giants are looking a little sluggish despite their winning streak.
