NFL fines Broncos CB Aqib Talib for personal fouls in Super Bowl

Talib will lose a big chunk of his Super Bowl 50 bonus for two personal fouls he committed during the game.

Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib has been fined $26,044 for the two personal foul penalties he committed against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.

Talib said following the game that the face-masking penalty on wide receiver Corey Brown was intentional. Brown was headed toward the sideline near the Denver 3-yard line when Talib grabbed his face mask and violently threw him to the ground. Talib said that knowing the penalty would only cost his team half the distance to the goal from that spot on the field justified the penalty, which kept Brown from scoring.

It was Talib’s second personal foul on Brown in that half. Talib said Brown was taunting Denver players on their sideline, and he responded by shoving Brown. Talib didn’t seem concerned about the possibility of a fine, but the NFL viewed it differently.

“One I just did on purpose, and I just had to show him,” Talib said. “It’s probably going to be a fine, but hey, we’re world champs.”

This past season, Talib was suspended one game for poking Indianapolis Colts tight end Dwayne Allen in the eye.

Prior to this incident, Talib had been issued one fine in his career, $8,268 for a late hit against the Seattle Seahawks. He has forfeited a total of $882,311 over the course of his career for fines and suspensions.
