Though the first on-field workouts by the top draft prospects from around the country don’t get underway until Friday, the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine will begin with player arrivals on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
NFL Combine schedule 2016: When will each position group will see the field?
The 2016 NFL Combine is just about here. Here’s all you need to know about it.
The Combine is structured in such a way that players arrive in multiple groups and go through the various stages of the Combine by order of arrival. Before anybody sees the field, they have to go through registration, medical exams, a lengthy orientation, interviews with scouts and teams, measurements, time in front of the media, a meeting with the NFL Players’ Association, the bench press and psychological testing.
Those appointments are made throughout the course of four days for each group, of which there are a total of 11. When the first groups of players that arrive on the first day make it through all of that stuff and see the field for timing, stations and skill drills of various kinds, the final two groups -- consisting solely of defensive backs -- will be arriving for their first day of the Combine.
It all will wrap up on Monday, Feb. 29. Groups 1, 2 and 3 will contain the kickers, special teamers, offensive linemen and running backs and will arrive on Day 1. Groups 4, 5 and 6 will contain quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends and will arrive on Day 2. Groups 7, 8 and 9 will contain defensive linemen and linebackers and will arrive on Day 3. Groups 10 and 11 feature defensive backs and will arrive on Day 4.
