NFL Combine 2016 results: Miles Killebrew leads defensive backs in the bench press

None of them broke any records, but the defensive backs as a whole put on a solid showing in the final bench press of the 2016 NFL Combine.

The defensive backs were the final group to take part in the bench press of the 2016 NFL Combine. The bench press is an important workout for defensive linemen, offensive linemen and a few other positions, but alongside wide receivers and special teams players, it matters about the least for defensive backs.

How many reps of 225 pounds a guy who rarely relies on raw strength for his job seems inconsequential. But it’s still a good metric to have for NFL teams, and that’s why it remains one of the drills at the Combine.

The best bench press of the Combine going into Sunday was the 34 reps put up by offensive lineman Christian Westerman, and as expected, no cornerbacks or safeties threatened that mark. But a couple of players did impress, with Miles Killebrew of Southern Utah standing out with 22 reps. Maryland defensive back Sean Davis was just behind him with 21 reps.

There were several players coming in at 18 and 19 reps, so it was a pretty respectable showing from the position all around. None of them matched Josh Shaw, who last year put up 26 reps, while Ibraheim Campbell managed 23 reps. Of those who participated, Harlan Miller of Southeastern Louisiana came in with the lowest number at just six reps.

Below are the full results for the defensive back bench press.
