Super Bowl 50 kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS, and even with two accomplished quarterbacks, it should be a great defensive battle. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who was named this season's NFL MVP, will look to add a Super Bowl win to his impressive résumé. Five-time MVP Peyton Manning may be taking the field for the last time in his Hall of Fame-caliber career, and if this is Manning's last game, he would surely prefer to go out on top with the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos had 11 wins this season with a margin of seven points or fewer, which is a league record in the Super Bowl era. The Broncos also managed regular season victories over five different teams that made it to the playoffs, primarily because of a relentless defensive attack. The Broncos have a demonstrated ability to find ways to win close games, and the defense has shown it can disrupt some of the best quarterbacks in the league.

But the Broncos haven’t faced a quarterback like Newton this season. Newton received 48 of 50 available votes for MVP following an impressive 15-1 regular season. He finished the season with an impressive 35 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns, and Newton’s dynamic performance also earned him Offensive Player of the Year honors. Denver’s defense has its work cut out for it against a dual threat like Newton.

The outcome of the game may come down to turnovers. Carolina’s defense has been opportunistic all season, leading the league in takeaways. Denver’s defense has been aggressive, too, tied with Carolina atop the league for forced fumbles with 22. The Broncos, however, turned the ball over at a relatively high rate. They finished the season with 31 giveaways, third-most in the league.
