Nobody knows whether Lady Gaga hit the over or under on her Super Bowl national anthem

How long did Lady Gaga’s national anthem last? Depends who you ask!

Nobody is debating whether or not Lady Gaga did a great job singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, but there’s actually a TON of controversy about exactly how long her rendition of the song went.

The length of the national anthem is one of the most popular Super Bowl prop bets. This year, the over/under was set at two minutes and 20 seconds. But watch the end of Gaga’s rendition:

When she finished the anthem, Lady Gaga sang the word “brave” twice, once in a lower octave, then raising to a higher octave for emphasis. When she finished the first “brave,” concluding the official lyrics of the anthem, she was UNDER the 2:20 mark. But if you include her second “brave,” she was OVER that mark, hitting 2:22.

Whether or not Gaga’s second “brave” counted depends on the rules set by the individual sportsbook.

Personally, I think Gaga's second "brave" should be included -- she was still singing the anthem! -- but that won't help any of the people who lost money. Maybe there are better ways to spend money than Super Bowl prop bets? Probably not. Bovada says the official time for those going with the under is 2 minutes, 9 seconds.
