Patriots, Panthers among 6 teams with better odds at winning Super Bowl LI than the Broncos

The favorites to win the next Super Bowl are not the ones who won the last Super Bowl.

Super Bowl 50 is a thing of the past, the Tennessee Titans are on the clock for the 2016 NFL Draft and it is now officially time to start looking ahead. If you're the betting type, then it's also time to make some completely irrational quick decisions about next season and agonize over them for the next several months, as the odds for Super Bowl LI in 2017 are now out.

The Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks are 9/1 co-favorites to win it all next time around, as of Monday morning, via Bovada. The odds will vary by sportsbook and they have shuffled a few times since the Denver Broncos beat the Panthers on Sunday evening. But the morning line from Bovada is a good one to start with.

Carolina had no answer for the Denver defense but it still advanced farther than the Seahawks and Patriots this year. The Seahawks fell in the Divisional round to the Panthers while the Patriots lost to the Super Bowl-winning Broncos in the AFC Championship.

It’s worth noting that there is a lot of uncertainty on the Broncos roster going forward. Peyton Manning is likely to retire and he doesn’t look like his old self even if he does stay. Although Super Bowl MVP Von Miller will likely get the franchise tag if the Broncos don’t get a deal done, the team would also like to keep defensive stalwarts Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan.

The next tier on the betting lines features two teams at 12/1 odds and neither are the Broncos, either. The Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers share those odds, and behind them are the Arizona Cardinals at 14/1. The Broncos don't enter the discussion until the next tier at 16/1 odds, where they and the Dallas Cowboys both sit.

Other notable teams include Washington, who made the playoffs this season but comes out at +5000 odds to win it.

After last year’s Super Bowl between the Patriots and Seahawks, the early morning odds had those two teams favored to meet again in Super Bowl 50. Seattle was favored to win it at 5/1, with New England behind them at 7/1. The Broncos came in at 10/1 odds.
