Since the new league year kicked off on March 9, many veteran players have been cut and hit the open market. Now that the 2016 NFL Draft is behind us and teams have a clearer idea of their plans for the coming season, they’re choosing to part ways with veteran players.
NFL free agents 2016: Former Bucs K Connor Barth headlines list of post-draft cuts
As NFL teams clarify their roster needs and cap situations for the coming season, veteran players are often casualties. Keep up with all the latest cuts here.

Perhaps the player has lost a step due to age, or his cap hit exceeds his usefulness. Perhaps he’s still got plenty of gas left in the tank, but he just no longer fits the team’s needs on the field. There are any number of reasons for a team to move on from a veteran player, and the end result is that plenty of players with valuable NFL experience will be available and looking for a place to land.
The cuts commenced the day after the Super Bowl when the Philadelphia Eagles released Riley Cooper. Later, veterans like Mario Williams, James Laurinaitis, Arian Foster and Andre Johnson were released. Robert Griffin III, who was released by Washington, found a new home with the Cleveland Browns.
We’ll keep track of all of the veteran cuts as they’re announced in days to come. Be sure to check back often for the latest updates.
