Sam Bradford agrees to 2-year, $36 million contract with Eagles

Bradford gets $26 million guaranteed with his new deal.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed quarterback Sam Bradford to a new contract, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Bradford’s two-year deal is worth $36 million with $26 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. His $18 million annual salary is tied for 15th among current quarterback contracts. It also represents a $5 million raise from the $13 million he earned in 2015.

After only one season with the team, Bradford will now get a chance to succeed under new head coach Doug Pederson. Bradford played 14 games for the Eagles in 2015, amassing 346 completions for 3,725 yards with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He set career highs last season in passing yards, yards per attempt and completion percentage.

The 28-year-old joined the team by way of trade in 2015. The Rams sent him to Philadelphia along with a fifth-round pick in exchange for Nick Foles and two picks.

After going No. 1 in the 2010 draft to the Rams, Bradford had an up-and-down career in St. Louis that saw him sidelined with injuries in 2011, 2013 and the entire 2014 season. During his time with the Rams, the quarterback racked in 11,065 yards on 1,032 completions for 59 touchdowns and 38 interceptions.

Bradford’s signing continues a recent wave of transactions by the Eagles in retaining their own players in free agency. The team has already locked up several of its top players for next season and beyond, including deals for Vinny Curry, Lane Johnson, Zach Ertz, Malcolm Jenkins and Brent Celek.
