WR Jermaine Kearse reportedly returning to Seahawks

Kearse was ready to move on, but the Seahawks finally made him an offer he could accept and he’ll be sticking around.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Wide receiver Jermaine Kearse is returning to the Seattle Seahawks after all, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Kearse was ready to move on by all accounts, but the Seahawks came back with a three-year deal and Kearse accepted, according to Schefter.

The deal is worth $13.5 million, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

An undrafted free agent out of the University of Washington in 2012, Kearse is a classic hardworking success story. He started off as a practice squad player before slowly moving up the depth chart, and by 2015 he was an established starter alongside Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett. Last season, Kearse posted career highs across the board with 49 catches, 685 yards and five touchdowns.

Still only 26, Kearse has room for improvement. He's always struggled with hands, an issue that's plagued him since college, but he's also capable of some spectacular circus catches. Perhaps his most famous moment came in Super Bowl 49, when he did this:

Don’t ask Seahawks fans what happened after that play.

In a happier memory, Kearse caught the game-winning overtime touchdown in the NFC Championship two weeks prior, sending the Seahawks to their second consecutive Super Bowl. Kearse has his flaws, but he’s also shown a knack for stepping up in big moments.
