Packers re-sign Nick Perry to 1-year, $5 million deal, per report

Perry has just 12.5 sacks in four seasons with the Packers, but was stuck behind players like Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers and Mike Neal on the depth chart.

Nick Perry is staying with the Green Bay Packers for another year, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Perry has signed a one-year, $5 million deal to remain with the team. He was a first-round pick by the team in 2012 but has mostly been a backup and rotational player.

Perry, 25, played in 46 games in his four seasons with the Packers, but started just 16 and wasn't ever able to step into the forefront of the Green Bay defense while behind players like Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers and Mike Neal. As a rotational pass rusher, he picked up 12.5 sacks with never more than four sacks in a season.

But the compensation for one season seems to imply that Perry will play a bigger role on defense this coming season. Backup linebackers aren’t supposed to make $5 million for a single season of play, so Perry might be looking at a starting role or even a bigger rotational role.

Perry has 12.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and 114 tackles in four season in the league. He will turn 26 before the 2016 season gets underway.
