Seahawks lock up punter Jon Ryan for another 4 years

Ryan has been a consistent weapon in the field position battle for the Seahawks.

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Punter Jon Ryan will remain with the Seattle Seahawks for another four years, the player said on Twitter Friday. Ryan has been with the Seahawks since 2008, being a reliable weapon for them in the battle for field position.

Last season, Ryan had an average of 45.7 yards per punt and totaled 3,105 punt yards. He had seven touchbacks and 24 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. His net yardage average was 37.9 yards per punt. It wasn’t his best year and his net average numbers have certainly been higher, but he’s one of the most consistent punters in the league.

Ryan, 34, has been in the NFL for 10 seasons and spent the first two seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers. He's also great in the locker room and a favorite of his teammates and coaches.

The Seahawks had the same group of kicker, punter and long snapper since 2011 with Ryan, kicker Steven Hauschka and Clint Gresham. In 2014, the team managed to extend Hauschka and last season they gave Gresham a new deal. This time, it was Ryan who became a free agent, but now they have brought him back as well.
