Kelvin Beachum signs with Jacksonville Jaguars

Beachum suffered a torn ACL six games into the 2015 season.

Offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum has reached a deal on a contract with the Jaguars, according to Adam Schefter. Beachum had his 2015 campaign cut short thanks to a torn ACL suffered in Week 6, but is expected to make a full recovery for the upcoming season.

Although he was coming off a major knee injury, Beachum was considered one of the top offensive tackle options available on the market. Although he's yet to make a Pro Bowl, the 2012 seventh-round pick has been a valuable cog in the Steelers O-line over the past several years. He started all 16 games at left tackle two seasons ago in Pittsburgh and the first six games of 2015 before getting injured.

Beachum, 26, has emerged as one of the better pass-blocking linemen in the league. In 2014, he ranked third among tackles in Pro Football Focus’ pass-blocking efficiency metric, and had allowed just six total pressures in the six games he played in 2015. He’s just average as a run blocker, but remains a valuable asset overall because of his excellent pass-protection skills.

If healthy, Beachum is a top-10 tackle and a difference maker for any team that puts him on the left side of its offensive line. Still, he enters the upcoming season with obvious question marks, and until he actually gets on the field, it’s tough to gauge how effective he really can be in the trenches.
