Bengals re-sign Adam Jones to help keep secondary intact

The Bengals also retained safety George Iloka on the first day of free agency.

Free agent cornerback Adam Jones has done a good job of reviving his career after plenty of trouble and controversy early on in it, and the Bengals have rewarded him. Cincinnati signed the 32-year-old Jones to a three-year contract Wednesday, according to Fox Sports’ Mike Garafolo. He has spent nine seasons in the NFL and has put together a handful of productive seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals since his issues several years ago.

Last season, Jones played in 14 games and put up 62 combined tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and three interceptions. He played in all 16 games in each of the previous three seasons and has always been a strong tackler. For his career, he has compiled 410 combined tackles and 14 interceptions, and that’s while playing in 114 career games.

Jones will be 33 for the 2016 season. That is well past the traditional sell-by date for cornerbacks, but some of his earlier career issues led to him not playing, which in turn means he has a lot left in the tank at this stage of his career. He is more mature, and he is a more consistent player these days as well.

I am so happy to say that I have agreed to a 3 year deal with the Bengals !!!!

In addition to retaining Jones, the Bengals re-signed safety George Iloka to a five-year, $30 million deal Wednesday. Since they brought back Iloka, it seems unlikely his partner at safety, Reggie Nelson, will return. Cornerback Leon Hall could leave as well.
