The Philadelphia Eagles' deal to send cornerback Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso to the Miami Dolphins has been confirmed by the team. Early on March 9, the trade was in serious doubt, per ESPN's Ed Werder. A little later, it was back on, according to Maxwell's agent, Alvin Keels.

The trade was reportedly just pending the results of physicals for both Maxwell and Alonso. Werder reported that concerns about a late-season shoulder injury for Maxwell were likely the reason the Dolphins do not wish to proceed. Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News reported that when Maxwell went to Miami for his physical, he seemed to be limited by ongoing shoulder issues. According to Bowen, Maxwell told a Dolphins physician that he was unable to complete bench press reps or do push-ups during his physical.

Still, hope remained that the trade could eventually happen. Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported that the Dolphins were waiting for more information from doctors. Salguero later reported that the trade will go through as originally planned.

It is a blockbuster trade that was reported by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Monday, and the deal involves the Eagles and Dolphins swapping spots in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Eagles will move from the 13th selection to the eighth overall pick.

Alonso and Maxwell were both high-profile additions to the Eagles prior to the 2015 season, but neither lived up to expectations or their respective contracts last season.

In a related move, the Dolphins have announced that they have released cornerback Brent Grimes.
