Rams reportedly manage to keep DE William Hayes

Hayes will follow the Rams to Los Angeles.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams will be able to keep defensive end William Hayes, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. It was reported as a three-year deal worth up to $21 million, though $17.5 million over three years has also been reported, by Aaron Williams of the Houston Chronicle.

Hayes was set to become a free agent at the start of the new league year on Wednesday, and had reported interest from multiple teams before the Rams locked him up. Los Angeles has had one thing going for it over the last few years: a strong front seven anchored by a stellar defensive line. Hayes was a huge part of that line and has been since he joined the Rams in 2012.

Hayes will turn 31 before next season gets underway, but he didn’t look slowed down at all this past season. He had 53 combined tackles, 5.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. The sack number was the second-highest of his career, behind the seven sacks he had with the Rams in 2012.

Hayes was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft and has played in all 16 games in three of his last four seasons. He missed two games due to injury in 2013, but aside from that has no real concerns entering his ninth NFL season.
