Matt Schaub and Matt Cassel somehow have jobs for 2016

Schaub and Cassel are far removed from being good players, but they keep landing contracts.

NFL free agency is here and it's a big deal, but not every signing can be a home run. In fact, not every signing can get through without being hilarious, and within a couple minutes both the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans mined the terrible quarterback quarry to give us all a good laugh.

The Falcons signed quarterback Matt Schaub to be their primary backup for Matt Ryan and the Titans must think Matt Cassel has something to teach second-year pro Marcus Mariota, because he's reportedly signed a one-year deal with them, according to John Glennon of The Tennessean.

In all seriousness, both are quarterbacks who have found some level of success and have been in the league for a long time. It’s just that both are pretty well removed from anything approaching “success” in their various roles with various teams.

Schaub, a third-round pick by the Falcons in 2004 but who hasn't played with them since 2006, last played in a pair of games for the Baltimore Ravens last season. As the primary backup for Joe Flacco, Schaub threw three touchdowns and four interceptions. His last "good" year came in 2012, when he threw 22 touchdowns against 12 interceptions, and he's thrown 20 interceptions and just 13 touchdowns since then.

Schaub has thrown a pick-six in each of the last three games he has played, and has the NFL record for consecutive games having thrown a pick-six with four, set back in 2013.

Cassel lost a quarterback battle with the Buffalo Bills this past offseason, and eventually landed with the Dallas Cowboys. He did not play well there, completing 58.3 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and seven interceptions in nine games. For his career, he has 101 touchdowns and 77 interceptions, and that's primarily due to two outlying years in which he had 21 and 27 touchdowns, respectively.
