The San Francisco 49ers weren't content to finish Thursday night with just Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner, and instead traded back into the first round by acquiring the No. 28 pick from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Chiefs trade out of the first round, give 49ers the No. 28 pick
The Chiefs don’t have many glaring needs, so acquiring two more draft picks to leave the first round is a move that makes sense.

Kansas City has been projected to take many players and doesn’t have too many glaring needs, although cornerback is one that could be upgraded. But with several cornerbacks already off the board, including Eli Apple, Artie Burns and William Jackson, the difference in value for the Chiefs between the tail end of the first round and the top of the second round meant a trade was worth it for the 2015 playoff team.
In addition to San Francisco’s second-round pick, the trade netted the Chiefs extra fourth-round and sixth-round picks, while the 49ers shored up the offensive line by taking Stanford offensive lineman Joshua Garnett.
Kansas City is now scheduled to pick with the No. 37 overall selection, the sixth pick of the second round which will begin on Friday.
