Annie Apple, the mother of New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple, is joining ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown as a contributor, and you should be excited about it.

Apple caught the attention of many in the weeks leading up to the NFL Draft, and her tendency to speak her mind with a healthy dose of good humor made her a star before her son's name was even called on draft night. After Apple was featured as a guest on His and Hers with Jemele Hill and Michael Smith after the draft, ESPN hired her as a contributor for Sunday NFL Countdown.

Seth Markman, ESPN’s senior coordinating producer for their studio shows, said that Apple brings a unique perspective as the mother of an NFL player and as a fan.

“We look forward to exploring a variety of different story ideas with her on Sunday NFL Countdown,” Markman said.

Apple certainly does have a unique perspective to offer, and on a variety of topics not limited to football.

She is a huge basketball fan and particularly likes Steph Curry. LeBron James? Not so much.

Apple also has her finger on the pulse of Internet culture. She gets it.

Apple is very excited to be joining ESPN and to be given a platform to represent sports moms everywhere. Her role with Sunday NFL Countdown will include player profiles and other unique stories, and her personality makes all of it definitely worth watching.
