The Denver Broncos confirmed that cornerback Aqib Talib was shot in the leg and was recovering in a Dallas hospital before he was released on Monday. Talib was shot after a fight at the V Live club in Dallas early on Sunday morning, according to Rebecca Lopez of WFAA TV.

A total of three people were shot. The Dallas Morning News reported that the victims hospitalized were being treated for “non life-threatening injuries.” Talib has told people close to him that he accidentally shot himself, but the police are still investigating, according to Mike Klis.

The police report said that a bullet entered through the rear of Talib’s right thigh and exited through his right calf.

The Broncos released the following statement on Sunday:

”We are in communication with Aqib Talib, who remains at a Dallas hospital for observation as he recovers from a gunshot wound suffered to his lower right leg on Sunday. He is expected to be released from the hospital soon, and we are glad he is OK and will make a full recovery.

“Our organization has been in touch with the NFL on this matter, and we will provide additional updates as appropriate.”

The Broncos made their visit to the White House to meet the president after winning the Super Bowl this year, and Talib did not attend. During the visit, Gary Kubiak said that Talib has been released from the hospital and that he’s expected to join the team by Wednesday, according to Lionel Bienvenu at KMGH ABV-7 in Denver.

His injuries will force him to miss the remainder of OTAs, but he could return by training camp or shortly after camp, according to Klis.

Talib is one of the best cover cornerbacks in the league and helped the Broncos take home a Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl 50 earlier this year. He's a three-time Pro Bowler, appearing in the game in each of the last three years and was a second-team All-Pro player in 2013. He is a major part of Denver's defense after snaring three interceptions last season.

In April 2015, Talib and his brother were under investigation for their involvement in an aggravated assault in a Dallas nightclub. No formal chargers were filed for Talib in that incident.
