Browns want Isaiah Crowell ‘to make a positive difference’ in the wake of controversial Instagram post

The team’s leading rusher from 2015 apologized for the post, but the Browns are saying that’s not enough.

Browns running back Isaiah Crowell apologized for posting disturbing photo on Instagram. Crowell posted the image of a police officer getting his throat slit last week, before five Dallas police officers were shot on Thursday, as a reaction to a pair of high profile police killings of young African American men. Crowell quickly deleted the post and issued an apology this week. However, the Browns said an apology wasn't enough.

They added: “he must take steps to make a positive difference after a very negative and impactful post.”

Crowell’s post is also unfortunate because it overshadows other athletes who are speaking out about police violence in thoughtful, constructive ways. We should listen to what those voices have to say, even if you disagree, and, as SB Nation’s Tyler Tynes wrote, not shame them for doing so.

SIGN THE PUNTER, MATE: Giants sign punter Brad Wing to three-year, $6.5 million contract extension. The Giants know the value of a good punter. Wing also happens to be from Australia, one of a growing number of players coming through the football pipeline from Down Under to the NCAA and, in a few cases, the NFL. Here’s the how and why of the Australian pipeline to American football.
