Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory has opted to check himself into a treatment facility and will not attend training camp, according to ESPN’s Ed Werder. Gregory had been issued a four-game suspension to start the season, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that Gregory had another violation of the league’s substance abuse policy and would be facing a longer suspension.

The Cowboys selected Gregory in the second round of the 2015 draft. Gregory was widely considered to have first-round talent, but failed drug tests at the Combine caused his draft stock to fall.

Gregory played in 12 games for Dallas last season, finishing the year with just 11 tackles and no sacks. He might have been in line for more playing time this season, or maybe even a starting role, but the suspension certainly doesn’t help and could put his NFL career in jeopardy.

The Cowboys will also be without defensive end Demarcus Lawrence for the first four games of the season, and linebacker Rolando McClain will miss the first 10 games. Gregory, Lawrence and McClain are all suspended for violations of the league’s substance abuse policy.
