The newly named stadium for the Buffalo Bills will be christened during their Week 2 preseason matchup against their Empire State brethren, the New York Giants. New Era Field is now the official moniker of the home of the Bills, and in addition to the naming rights, the stadium’s signage will be rebranded and the team will launch an exclusive stadium-only cap collection.

Eli Manning and the Giants head to Buffalo to face the Bills in their newly named stadium.

The Bills are having serious offseason personnel issues this year, with key players getting sidelined with injuries -- most notably, rookies Shaq Lawson and Reggie Ragland -- and a few other players, including defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, facing some form of suspension. Whether it be for one game or four, the hammer has been dropping on Buffalo the past few weeks.
Coming up with a bevy of replacements on the final 53-man roster is becoming increasingly difficult for the Bills, who recently signed linebacker Kroy Biermann and defensive linemen Brandon Deaderick and Alameda Ta’amu to help with the losses on defense.
With depth on the roster starting to become an issue, the team at least saw some good things out of their fourth-round pick, quarterback Cardale Jones. Despite coming up short on a two-point conversion for the win, he was able to bring the Bills back within one point of the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. Jones won’t be earning the starting role anytime soon -- especially with Tyrod Taylor’s recent contract extension -- but backups getting valuable experience in game conditions is what the preseason is all about.
The Giants’ preseason didn’t start out so well for new head coach Ben McAdoo, with a 27-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. They started off strong, scoring 10 points in the first quarter thanks to a nice touchdown run from running back Rashad Jennings. But those were the last points they scored all night.
While injuries haven’t been as fervent for the Giants, they did have two scares during Week 1 when the team’s first two draft picks, Eli Apple and Sterling Shepard, went back to the locker room before the half. Luckily, the injuries were minor and both players made the trip to Buffalo.
Last week, McAdoo chose to sit Eli Manning, but the quarterback will return to action against the Bills and is excited to get some game reps ahead of the season, admitting he "needs the preseason." Star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. also sat out last week due to McAdoo's decision, and like Manning he'll be on the field Saturday.
“To get out there with Eli and Odell and get the whole group together and work the instincts, anticipation, is exciting,” McAdoo said earlier in the week.
The Bills could also see their top QB-WR tandem in action Saturday. Rex Ryan said that Taylor will take more snaps than he did last week against the Colts, and though he didn’t confirm that Sammy Watkins would make his preseason debut, Ryan did say he was “thinking about” playing Watkins for a series. Watkins, who had foot surgery this offseason, returned to practice a couple weeks ago.
