The Tennessee Titans, almost entirely over the course of a single offseason, have revamped their entire running game and the results after one preseason game have been positive. Tennessee brought in DeMarco Murray, the 2014 season rushing leader who looked completely out of his league last season, and Murray seems to have responded well to Tennessee’s system. He broke off a 71-yard touchdown run in the preseason opener.
Panthers vs. Titans 2016 live stream: Game time, TV schedule and how to watch online
The Titans’ running game looked great in the preseason opener, but the Panthers’ defensive front presents a whole different problem.

Derrick Henry, a rookie taken in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, is big, athletic, has a high ceiling and also impressed with 74 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries in the opener. Bishop Sankey added a 41-yard run and a touchdown as well. With 288 yards on the ground, the Titans ran all over the San Diego Chargers, and that was without dual-threat quarterback Marcus Mariota registering a single carry.
The Titans have been bolstering their offensive line chiefly to shore up protection for Mariota, but it’s also helped turned their running game into one of the most physical in the league. How they perform against the stout defensive front of the Carolina Panthers on Saturday gives this preseason matchup a bit more pizzazz.
The Panthers will have Luke Kuechly out on the field and the star inside linebacker is eager to do some hitting. It’s unknown how long Kuechly will play, though. He only participated in a single drive in the preseason opener, but with such a focus on the Titans’ running game, Kuechly should have more than a few opportunities to do some hitting.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera said that the starters as a whole will play longer in the second preseason game, and that he’s looking for consistency more than anything else, saying he wants long, sustained drives on that side of the ball. The Panthers scored touchdowns on 69.4 percent of their drives last season. In their preseason opener last week against the Baltimore Ravens, they scored one touchdown in the first quarter and then settled for field goals the rest of the night.
However, quarterback Cam Newton only played in one series against the Ravens. If the reigning league MVP plays longer, the Panthers have a much better chance of finding the end zone -- which could bring back bad memories for the Titans players who got upset at Newton’s post-touchdown dance in their regular season matchup lat year.
Saturday’s game will take place in Tennessee, and will begin at 3 p.m. ET. It will be the first game of the day, though it will not be broadcast nationally. An online stream of each preseason game will be available via NFL Game Pass.
