Steelers vs. Saints 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online

The Steelers are set to let their stars play for the first time.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

On Friday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers (0-2) will travel to New Orleans to play the Saints (0-2) in Week 3 of the preseason. This game should be a much more exciting one for Pittsburgh than the previous two, as the team's stars are ready to hit the field for the first time. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he is ready to play anyone who's healthy, meaning we should expect to see Ben Roethlisberger for some period of time.

“I’d like to get out there and play a little bit,” said Roethlisberger. “It’s fun to go against different uniforms. I remember a couple days of practice against the Lions, you get a little bit of butterflies in the belly seeing another uniform across form you.”

Tomlin’s statement also suggests running backs Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams will suit up Friday, too. Once the regular season starts, Williams is set to take the bulk of the carries while Bell is sidelined three games to serve his suspension. Wide receiver Antonio Brown should see his first action of 2016 against the Saints, as well.

That should excite fans, who have watched a brutal offensive showing in consecutive weeks of preseason play as second-string quarterback Landry Jones threw four first-half interceptions against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2 and receiver Sammie Coates fumbled twice in week 1 against the Detroit Lions. The Steelers have been outscored 47-17 so far, which includes getting shut out against Philly. Opponents have totaled 677 yards to Pittsburgh’s 394, but with the offensive firepower the Steelers’ starters can bring, they can turn things around on Friday night.

The Saints have already seen their starters in some form of action in each of their first two games. Drew Brees, playing out what could be his final season in New Orleans after not receiving a contract extension, has completed six of his nine throws for 66 yards. In his first game, his lone throw was hauled in by Brandin Cooks for a 37-yard gain. Running back Mark Ingram has also appeared in both games, rushing for 29 yards on 14 attempts and scoring a pair of touchdowns against the Patriots.

This game should start feeling a little more like a regular season one with both teams deploying their starters for some amount of time. When they’re subbed, the pressure will be on for the lower tier of players, who will be playing in their last game before the first round of cuts on Tuesday. Final rosters will be set a few days later, after teams play their final games of the preseason. Canal Street Chronicles has an idea of what the Saints’ final 53-man roster could look like.

Regardless of the outcome, the Steelers playing impact players should make this their most exciting -- and least sloppy -- game to date.
