Josh McCown briefly leaves Ravens game with left shoulder injury

McCown had two beautiful touchdown throws when he exited the game with an injury, but he returned for the next series.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown left Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens with a left shoulder injury. McCown left the game late in the first quarter and departed for the locker room under his own power. Immediately after he left the field, Cody Kessler began warming up.

The Browns announced McCown’s return to the game was questionable with the shoulder injury, but McCown jogged back out of the locker room and when the Browns came up on offense, he resumed play. The injury to his left shoulder is his non-throwing shoulder. McCown then left the game again with what looked like the same injury

McCown is the second starter for Cleveland this season, as Robert Griffin III was awarded the starting role in the preseason. But Griffin was hurt in the team's opener and McCown, a starter last season, was given the job. McCown was playing well when he went down with the injury, completing 5 of 7 passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns, both of which went to first-round pick Corey Coleman.

Kessler, 23, was a third-round pick in this year’s draft and is the only other quarterback on the roster. Kessler may not be ready to play at all, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Kessler is “not close to being ready to play” earlier in the week.
