New England Patriots Jimmy Garoppolo left Sunday's game against the AFC East rival Miami Dolphins with a right shoulder injury. Garoppolo took a big hit from linebacker Kiko Alonso, and stayed down on the field in obvious pain. In the third quarter, the Patriots downgraded Garoppolo's status to out, and he did not return to the game.

Garoppolo is starting while Tom Brady serves a suspension, and the Patriots are now down to a rookie.

Garoppolo was transported to the hospital before the game ended for further tests, and according to Kevin Duffy of MassLive.com, X-rays revealed that Garoppolo did not suffer a fracture. CBS Sports’ Jason LaCanfora reported that Garoppolo will undergo further tests.
Jacoby Brissett was immediately working out after the hit and entered the game for the Patriots. Brissett was a third-round pick in this year's draft by the Patriots. He played college ball at NC State.
Garoppolo was making the start in place of All-Pro quarterback Tom Brady, who is serving the second of a four-game suspension for his role in the DeflateGate scandal. Garoppolo was playing well when he went down with the injury, with many joking that the Patriots wouldn’t need Brady at the end of his suspension.
In less than a full half of play, Garoppolo completed 18 of 27 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns. At the time of the injury, the Patriots led by three touchdowns, and kicker Stephen Gostkowski quickly made it four scores with a field goal on the drive of the injury.
