Adrian Peterson’s wife says he’s already walking after knee injury vs. Packers

The Vikings expect good news about Adrian Peterson’s knee, which doesn’t appear to be as injured as first feared.

The knee injury suffered by Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson on Sunday is a torn meniscus, according to head coach Mike Zimmer, and his wife says that he was already walking on the injured leg before the end of the night.

According to Larry Fitzgerald, Sr. (Yes, that Larry Fitzgerald. He’s a sports writer based in Minnesota), Peterson had an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury, but the running back’s wife believes he will be OK. Zimmer even said that it’s possible Peterson will play in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers.

While Peterson has had a rough start to the 2016 season, managing just 50 yards on 31 carries with zero touchdowns, it is big news for the Vikings that the former MVP isn’t seriously injured. The team already lost Teddy Bridgewater for the year and Peterson’s backups, Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon, haven’t had much running room either in the first two weeks.

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer seemed to believe that good news was on the way for Peterson on Sunday night, telling reporters that the injury “calmed down” after the game.

Peterson’s injury also revealed a bizarre flaw in the new U.S. Bank Stadium, as he had to limp his way through a sports bar on his way to the locker room:

Peterson has dealt with knee injuries in the past, including tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee in 2011. He is just 275 rushing yards away from being the 16th player in NFL history with 12,000 career rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns from being the ninth player to 100.
